Structure of a matrix

Read the Matrix by matching the row value, column value, and optional tab value. Rows usually represent color, columns usually represent size, and tabs represent a third dimension, such as fabric or model. Each cell represents one SKU combination. The value in the cell depends on the selected matrix type.

  1. Choose the tab first, if tabs are shown. The tab filters the matrix to the selected third dimension.
  2. Find the row for the first dimension, typically color.
  3. Find the column for the second dimension, typically size.
  4. Read the value in the intersecting cell.
    • For Order matrices, the value is the order quantity.
    • For the Style matrix, the cell value is one of the enabled quantity fields such as on hand, allocated, ordered, or requisitioned. If SKU availability is enabled, it is shown as a check mark indicating whether the SKU exists.

Asterisk in header fields

An asterisk (*) is added automatically below a value in a matrix header field when the value is aggregated. For example, an asterisk can appear below the value for Warehouse or Required delivery dt when the matrix includes data for multiple warehouses or multiple required delivery dates instead of one value.
Note:

To show the matrix for one specific value and avoid aggregation, make sure the source component provides that value. See Configuring the Matrix component and check Setting up a source component.

Group columns

The matrix layout changes based on the input. If an optional field, such as warehouse or delivery date, is not provided, and the data contains multiple values for that field, the matrix uses that field as a grouping column. Each field value appears in a separate row. If the optional field is provided, the matrix filters by that value and hides the grouping column.

Style matrix example

In this example, the source component provides a warehouse value, so the example does not include a warehouse grouping column. The matrix contains the enabled balance fields as sub rows for each color.

Extra small Small Medium Large Total
White On hand 0 0 0 0 0
Allocated 0 0 0 0 0
Ordered 20 20 100 140

If the source component does not provide a warehouse, the warehouse is shown as a grouping column:

Warehouse 8 10 12 14 16
Black 001 On hand 10 12 15 0 0
Allocated 10 12 15 0 0
Ordered 306 39 206 6 6
002 On hand 0 0 0 0 0
Allocated 0 0 0 0 0
Ordered 0 0 0 0 0

Purchase orders matrix example

In this example, both Warehouse (WHLO) and Req deliverydate (DWDT) are provided by the source component.

8 10 12 14 16
Black 5 5 5 5 5
Black 2 2 2 2 2
Green 10 10 10 10 10

If the source component does not provide a warehouse or required delivery date, the same matrix displays these fields as grouping columns:

Warehouse Required deliver qt 8 10 12 14 16
Black 001 20260507 5 5 5
Black 001 20260601 2 2 2 2 2
Green 001 20260507 10 10 10 10 10
