Using Selection tool

Use the Selection tool to collect information from the M3 Mobility Core database according to conditions that you set. The information is collected when running queries against the database. The query contains the criteria determining which information to collect. The collected information is called a selection or selection result.

You can save a selection as a template that you can load later.

Selecting columns for results

  1. Launch the Selection tool.
  2. Select an entity from the Target Entity field.

    The primary key for the selected entity is added in the Selected Columns panel. Note that only one entity is selected for each query.

    Click the hyperlink in the first column of the results to open its details. For example, selecting Contact and clicking the hyperlink opens the Contact details.

  3. In the Select Available columns panel, a tree with all parent and child entities are displayed with corresponding icons.
  4. Add columns to the Selected Columns panel using any of these methods:
    • Highlight a column and click Add.
    • Double-click a column.
  5. In the Selected Columns panel, you can manage the column list using any of these actions:
    • Click Move Up or Move Down to rearrange the column order. The Query Results list reflects the column order.
    • Select a column and click Delete to remove the column.
    • When at least one column is available in the Selected Column panel, the Next button is enabled.
  6. Click Next to proceed.

Setting the selection criteria

After you select the result column, you can define the conditions that filter which records appear in the results.
  1. Launch the Selection tool.
  2. Select an entity from the dropdown list.
  3. In the Column field, select a column.
  4. In the Condition field, select the operator to use and define the criteria for the selected column. The available comparison operators depend on the column data type.
  5. Click Add criteria. A new set of condition fields is displayed. Define whether it is an AND or OR condition.
  6. Click Add new group. A new group of conditions is displayed. Define whether it is an AND or OR condition.
  7. Optionally, you can click Next to set the sorting order of the query results.

Defining the sort order of the results

Optionally, you can use this procedure to define the sort order of the query results and set a limit on the number of returned records in Step 3: Additional condition.
  1. Click an entity in the Select columns for order by tree to expand its column.
  2. Specify a criteria in the Search box to find a specific column. You can also click column and click Add.
  3. On the Order By panel, select Ascending or Descending to update the column sort order.
  4. Select a column in the Order By panel. Click Move Up or Move Down on the column to reorder the results.
  5. Click Delete on the column entry to remove a column.

Limiting and filtering results

To limit and filter results, specify the maximum number of records to return in the Max results to display field. Set Remove duplicates to exclude duplicate records from the results.

When Remove duplicates option is set, the Order By panel displays all defined columns instead of the tree view. When disabled, the tree view remains.

Viewing the query results

You can execute the query when at least one criterion is defined in Step 2: Setting the selection criteria.

  1. Click Execute query.
  2. When a warning message is displayed, click Proceed to continue.
  3. In the Query Results panel, click the link in the first column to open the record page of the entity.
  4. Click the Search box above the query results and specify a search term. Press Enter to filter the results.

Editing a query with existing results

If query results are displayed, you can edit the selection criteria or column.

  1. Edit the selection criteria or column configuration.
  2. Click Continue to execute the new query and replace the current results.
  3. Click Execute query.

Saving a template from query results

You can save a selection as a template to reuse it in the future. Templates are stored in the M3 Mobility Core database.

When you save a template in the database, you can set the template to public or private. A private template can only be viewed by the template owner. Other users can view a private template only if it is configured in the M3 Mobility Core Toolbox.

After the query results are displayed, you can save the current query configuration as a template directly from the result panel.

  1. Click Save template in the Query Results panel.
  2. Specify a unique template name and description in the modal.
  3. Turn on Allow other users to use template to save the template as public. If this option is off, the template is saved as private by default.
  4. If a template is currently loaded in the Selection tool, turn on Save as new template to create a new template.
  5. Click Save.

Managing selection templates

Loading a template

  1. Select Manage selection template from the toolbar.
  2. Click Load for the template you want to load.

    If you have unsaved changes to the current query. Any changes you've made to the query criteria will not be saved if you load a new template.

Updating a template

  1. Select Manage selection template from the toolbar.
  2. From the list of available templates, click the name or description of the template you want to update.
  3. Specify the new information.
  4. Click Save.

Deleting a template

  1. Select Manage selection template from the toolbar.
  2. Click the Delete next to the template you want to remove.
  3. Click Delete to confirm action.

Exporting query results

To export query results, click Export to CSV in the Query Results panel.
