Manager Self-Service tasks

This table lists the tasks available in Manager Self-Service.

Task Definition
Career Management

Managers can manage their employees' career paths, explore future job opportunities, and plan for career growth.

Managers can perform these actions:
  • Enroll an employee in a training course
  • View information about the employee's current job
  • View their goal action plan
  • Next performance review date
  • Current qualifications
  • Training history

Managers can use this task to help them determine which jobs an employee is qualified for, and identify appropriate training courses for the employee to further their career goals.

Credentials Managers can view employee credentials, and view or print compliance and expired competency reports.
Direct Reports
Managers can view information about their employees. Managers can perform these actions:
  • Access employee profile and emergency contact information
  • Picture, drill around, and process personnel actions and overdue or upcoming due performance reviews

If the employee has direct reports, then the manager can view employee information for those direct reports.

Employee Dates
Managers can view their employees' key employee dates such as:
  • Hire date
  • Adjusted hire date
  • Length of service
  • Birthdate

Managers can sort data by any column.

The system uses the employee information to determine active direct reports:

  • Employees who have the manager's supervisor code on their employee master.

  • The employee's hire date or adjusted hire date is less than or equal to the system date.

  • The employee's termination date is blank or greater than the system date.

GoalView Managers can view, maintain, and approve goals for their employees as part of an overall career planning process.
Job Requisitions Managers can see all existing job requisitions he or she created.
New Job Requisitions

Managers can create job requisitions.

The system inserts the manager's employee number in the Requested By field. The system inserts the system date in the Request Date and Open Date fields.

If you are using e-Recruiting, then the Open Date field remains blank until it is processed through e-Recruiting.

The manager must specify this information:
  • Position or job
  • Process level
  • Requisition status
  • Date needed
If the Count Category field in Position Rules (PA06) is set to Process Level Job, then the job code is required. If the Count Category is set to Position, then the position is required.
Pay Rate History
Managers can select their direct reports and view their pay rate history, including:
  • Effective date
  • New rate
  • Annualized rate
  • Percent change
  • Currency for all pay changes
Performance Management Managers can view and maintain performance reviews for their employees.
Personnel Actions

Managers can specify personnel action for their direct reports.

If the system allows immediate updates, then managers can process the action immediately or pend it for review.

If the system does not allow immediate updates, then the system automatically pends the action.

If the manager specifies an action for which a pending action already exists, then the system displays the Change To value for the pending personnel action.

Stock Options Managers can select direct reports and view their employees' data such as:
  • Stock option grants
  • Shares due to expire in the next 12 months
  • Investment information
Time Entry

Managers can electronically specify or edit timecards on behalf of their employees. The manager can update the status of the timecard to specify whether it was approved, rejected, or put on hold.

Managers can define different time card views versus employees and time card data can maintained for an entire pay period, a single day, or on an exception basis only.

Managers can run reports to view time cards for their employees, to gather a detailed view of the data, or to identify timecards that were not submitted or specified.

Time Off Request

Managers can view and approve/reject time off requests submitted by their direct reports. If time is approved, then the request may be optionally set as default to a pending time record in EMSS. If EMSS Time Entry is not used, then approved requests can be extracted for loading into an external time entry system.

The manager can filter the list of requests for a direct report to submitted, pending, canceled, rejected, or leave of absence type requests. Leave of absence requests made by the employee are routed to an HR administrator's inbasket and can be viewed but not updated by the manager.

An email notification is sent to the employee when the manager takes action on their time off request.
