Defining categories (optional)

The Categories task is designed to use the United Nations Standard Products and Service Codes (UNSPSC).

Note: Categories use a hierarchical structure called the segment tree. The hierarchy helps you manage the categories list.

Categories enable you to search for items by category. After importing the UNSPSC codes, you can assign them to items using Item Master (IC11.1).

Requisitions will utilize three levels: segment, family, and class. These levels create an item hierarchy and enables you to search each level for items in the Item Master file. These codes are attached to items on IC11.

After you define categories, you can click a top-level category to open the segment tree to the product, family, and class. You can select items at any of the levels.

Use this procedure to define categories.
