Ledger
A ledger is a repository of Strategic Ledger transactions. Strategic Ledger transactions are posted and summarized to a ledger based on the criteria defined in a ledger and the period end dates defined for the Strategic Ledger calendar included in the ledger. The data that you define in a ledger identifies the data that you view in a data mart.
A ledger can include a company or company group, a chart, company and accounting unit, or account and subaccount combinations (GL), user analysis values (SL), as well as attributes and values (MX).
You can define and use multiple ledgers, and you can also organize each ledger to accommodate different reporting needs.
The ledger posts information based on the period end dates that you defined for the Strategic Ledger calendar.
You can use the same ledger to post information and for analysis in the Lawson Analytic Architecture application.
For each ledger, you can include transactions for a specific company, chart of accounts, chart section, user analysis, and attribute. You can also include transactions for a specific currency code including base currency, transaction currency, report currency one, and report currency two.
Amount type | Currency | Result |
---|---|---|
Base | Can select Base, Report 1, or Report 2 currency | Includes transactions associated with that currency code. |
Base | Left blank | Includes transaction amounts in the company base currency. |
Transaction | Left blank |
Includes transactions associated with all transaction currency codes. Note: Lawson recommends that you include the Currency
attribute in the Ledger Segments form tab. This enables you to get summarized
balances by transaction currency and only includes records associated with the
transaction currency code.
|
Transaction | Transaction currency code | Includes all transactions associated with that transaction currency code. |
Each form tab in this program acts like a filter that enables you to specify transaction data included in the ledger. For example:
-
If you only select a company, then all the user analysis transactions associated with that company are included.
-
You can select a company in the Basic form tab, then specific User Analysis associated with that company in the Ledger Segments form tab.
-
You can select a company, User Analysis, and specific user analysis values in the Selects form tab.
Business scenario information
Moose Wood Outfitters staff members need to analyze revenues earned and expenses incurred in the sale of MWO's various shoe product lines such as hiking boots and walking shoes for men, women, and children.
Staff members want to have a data mart that enables them to display revenue and expense data for the shoe product lines for specific markets, sales channels, and distribution methods. The ledger needs to include all four of MWO's user analyses.
To compare and contrast Strategic Ledger data mart reports and standard accounting reports, MWO staff wants the ledger segments to include the company-accounting unit and account-subaccount combinations.
