Account group

An account group is a group of account ranges that you can use for reports and inquiries. It can include a combination of sequential and non-sequential account ranges, but is most appropriate when you want to report on non-sequential ranges. For example, you can create a report using accounts 51080 to 51090, 51175 to 51175, and 51225 to 51225 for a specific company or company group instead of creating a report for each account range.

Example

LGE Corporation has a large number of payroll expense accounts defined in its chart of accounts. The manager of Human Resources regularly requests reports for salary analysis that show only four accounts:

  • Salary and Wages

  • Regular Pay

  • Vacation Pay

  • Sick Pay

This illustration shows a portion of LGE's chart of accounts and highlights the accounts that were included in the account group. This account group includes a combination of sequential and non-sequential account ranges:

  • 51080 to 51090

  • 51175 to 51175

  • 51225 to 51225
