How does position rules affect requisitions

Your position rules affect requisitions in a number of ways. Position rules determine if requisitions are included in assigned resource counts. When requisitions are counted, the position rules indicate if the requisition must have a job code or a position code. The count category determines which code the requisition must have. If requisitions are compared to the budget, position rules determine what restrictions the budget has on the requisition.

How you set up the budget limits influences how many requisitions you create. The selection you make in the Restrict to Budget field for position rules determines if the application will allow you to create the requisition.

If you select Then
"must equal budget" the number of open requisitions cannot be less or more than the difference between filled positions (assigned resources) and the budget.
"cannot exceed budget" the number of open requisitions can equal or be less than the difference between filled positions (assigned resources) and the budget.
"can exceed budget" the number of open requisitions are not controlled.
"can't exceed; allow other changes" if the count category is currently over budget, you can make changes to employees in that count category as long as the resulting variance is not larger.

Example

If the position rule sets the Restrict to Budget field selection to "equal the budget" and the budget is set to 10 positions, then when there are 6 filled positions (assigned resources) there must be 4 open requisitions.

If the position rule sets the Restrict to Budget field selection to "cannot exceed the budget" and the budget is set to 10 positions, then when there are 6 filled positions there can be 4 or fewer open requisitions.
