What happens when I release a journal entry?

You must release journal entries before you can post them.

Before release

A journal entry must meet these criteria before you can release it:

  • The journal entry must be in balance.

  • For a company that uses control totals, the journal entry must also have a matching control and journal entry totals.

Results of release

Releasing a journal entry:

  • Changes the journal entry status to Released

  • Makes the journal entry transaction lines available for posting

  • Creates intercompany balancing entries (for intercompany journal entries only)
