ASC X12 and UN/EDIFACT standards

In 1979, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) chartered the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 to develop uniform standards for interindustry electronic interchange of business transactions—electronic data interchange (EDI). ASC X12 develops, maintains, interprets, publishes and promotes the correct use of American National and UN/EDIFACT International Electronic Data Interchange Standards.

ASC X12 standards are the EDI standards that are established by the Accredited Standards Committee. (These standards are still sometimes referred to as ANSI X12 standards.) ASC X12 works with industry groups and is the United States member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

UN/EDIFACT (United Nations/Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport) standards are international EDI standards established under the auspices of the United Nations. Customers who have purchased the Lawson EDI Professional for Supply Chain product can use the IBM® WebSphere® Transformation Extender (WTX) to implement the use of UN/EDIFACT.
