Replacement items
Replacement items are items that are automatically used when the requested item is out of stock. Replacement items are generally used when an item is obsolete. Then, when that item is out-of-stock, the replacement item automatically is used.
For example, if you sell two models of a flashlight, then you can define the newer model as a replacement item for the obsolete model. Then, when the obsolete model is out of stock, the application automatically sends customers the newer model flashlight. The obsolete flashlight will not create a backorder, even if the order allows backorders. If, however, the replacement flashlight was out-of-stock, then that item creates a backorder.
You can define one replacement item per item when you set up an item master in Inventory Control. For more information, see the Inventory Control User Guide.
