Data that Lawson receives from WMS (inbound processing)

Inbound processing consists of all data transfers from WMS to Lawson, including:

  • Shipment Confirmations

  • Purchase Order Receipts

  • Inventory Adjustments

  • Inventory Reconciliations

  • Customer Return Receipts

Shipment confirmations

After a pickticket has been picked, packed, and shipped, picking list feedback is sent back to Lawson. Lawson receives the feedback in the form of database tables. Any records containing errors can be corrected. When the shipment record is released, the stock-on-hand in the Inventory Control application is updated.

Purchase order receipts

After a purchase order is downloaded into WMS ASN tables, the WMS user creates a shipment that references, and is a subset of, the purchase order.

Note: There are some WMS that can receive multiple purchase orders for a shipment, but that functionality is not supported in this interface.

Receiving in WMS should be done against the shipment. When items are received in the warehouse, WMS triggers receiving in Lawson. After inspection, any rejected quantities are transferred to a different Inventory Control location.

Lawson will accept multiple receipts against a purchase order as needed. When the received quantity is equal to the expected receipt quantity, Lawson closes the purchase order. Depending on the receipt tolerance set up in Lawson, over-receiving is allowed even if the purchase order is closed.

Inventory adjustments

The WMS can provide miscellaneous inventory adjustments and small cycle counts to Lawson. Inventory can be adjusted for a number of reasons and the adjustment can be explained through the use of reason codes and descriptions. Reason codes provide a method to override default offset general ledger accounts.

Inventory reconciliations

Lawson owns the cost of items for all transactions while WMS owns the quantities. WMS is responsible for the actual management of the warehouse, including:

  • Quantity shipped

  • Quantity returned

  • Physical inventory quantities

WMS exports the physical inventory quantities to Lawson on a regular basis. Lawson performs a pseudo physical inventory to import the quantities. This allows Lawson to import the quantities just as if they were counted in Lawson. It also provides variance reports to investigate any discrepancies between the two systems.

Customer return receipts

When WMS has received all returned goods listed on a customer return authorization, an update is sent to Lawson showing the actual quantity of goods that was returned through the return receipt or return feedback process.
