What is Product and Maintenance Billing and Revenue?
Product and maintenance billing and revenue is the process of billing customers and recognizing revenue for the sale of specific products and/or product maintenance. This is opposed to services billing and revenue, which is based on providing services to a customer, such as consulting.
Product billing and revenue is derived from the sale of physical products to a customer, such as software or computers. Products are set up in a product list, and then associated with a product contract.
Maintenance billing and revenue is derived from maintenance or support provided to a customer that is not bundled with the product. Typically this includes phone support and delivery of updated versions of a product.
