Defining coverage salary parameters
If you specified percent or multiple of salary in the Calculation Type on BN17.3, Salary Parameters (BN17.5) automatically opens after you click Add. You must define the salary parameters to use percent and multiple of salary calculations.
- Access Salary Parameters (BN17.5).
If you defined Calculation type on BN17.3 as Percent or Multiple of Salary and click Add to open Salary Parameters (BN17.5). If BN17.5 did not automatically open, click Salary on BN17.3.
- Select the salary type to use for the calculation in the Type field. This table shows the different salary options:
Note: If you select a salary field other than the Employee Salary, for example, BN Salary 1, ensure that field is logged to history on Data Item Attributes (HR10.1).
Select To use Employee Salary the employee's annualized rate of pay from Employee (HR11.1) or, if applicable, the employee's step and grade schedule. Total Employee Salary the employee's total salary from all positions. Flex Salary the employee's salary on the Employee Flex Credit (BN45.1) record. Benefit Salary the benefit salaries from the Ben Date tab of HR11.1. Emp and Ben Sal the employee's annualized rate of pay from HR11.1 plus a benefit salary. You use this option if only some of your employees in this plan you must have a benefit salary amount maintained, such as, employees paid on commission. Total Emp and Sal the employee's total salary from all positions plus a benefit salary. - Select the date to use to determine employee salaries in the Date field. This table shows the date options:
Select To determine an employee's salary Current on the application date employee enrolls in the benefit. First of Month on the first of the month the benefit begins. As of Date on a particular month and day. The application uses the month and day that you specify in the AS of MMDD field. Flex Calc Date on the same date used to calculate the employee's flex credits. - Specify this information:

Speicyf the date to use to determine an employee's salary for coverage calculations.

If you selected As of Date in the Date field, specify the month and day.

If you leave the Year field blank when you use the As of Date, you can use the application to calculate an employee's salary on the latest month and day specified.

If you specify a Year, the employee's salary is determined on the exact month, day, and year you specify.

If you use an As of Date, and the employee has no salary history on that date, the current salary is used.

This is a required field. If you do not use any rounding methods, select No Rounding.
- Click OK to close BN17.5.
- Click Add on Coverage Amounts (BN17.3).
If you are changing salary parameters, click Change on BN17.3.
