Importing metadata

After you have successfully transferred the dimension metadata files to the PC on which the Pillar application data set resides, follow this procedure to import the dimension metadata in the Pillar application:

  1. In the Pillar application, retrieve the data set for which you want to import dimensions.
  2. Select the Dimensions module and open the first dimension for which you want to import data.
  3. If you are importing dimensions, then add attribute columns for them. Ensure that the attribute columns are in the same order as they appear in your import file.
    Note: You can view your import file in Excel, Notepad, or any other application capable of reading an ASCII file.
  4. Import the dimension metadata file using the Import command from the File menu.

    Specify these ASCII separators in the Pillar application's Import window:

    • Field separator: comma (,)

    • Record separator: carriage return (CR-LF)

    • Quote: double quotation mark (")

  5. Repeat these steps to populate each dimension in the Pillar application.
