Resolving Dishonored Bills of Exchange
You can resolve a dishonored bill of exchange when you receive a cash payment, write off the bill of exchange, or renegotiate a new open item. This procedure will detail how to resolve dishonored bills of exchange.
To resolve a dishonored bill of exchange
- Access Dishonored Resolution (DT92.1).
- To resolve a dishonored bill of exchange, click the Reneg button to open Renegotiate Dishonor (DT92.2). You can enter cash payment information for all or a part of the bill of exchange amount, enter finance charges to charge the customer for expenses associated with processing the dishonored bill of exchange, and rebill the customer for all or the unpaid part of the bill of exchange amount plus optional finance charges.
- To write off a dishonored bill of exchange, click the WOff button to open Write Off Dishonor (DT92.3).
- If you use remittance control, run Process Dishonored Bills of Exchange (DT185) to post the dishonored bills of exchange. If you do not use remittance control, run Bank Presentation, Cashing Update (DT180).
- The process leaves you with either a new bill of exchange (if renegotiated) or a canceled bill of exchange (if written off). You must reprocess the new bill of exchange from processing to cashing.
