How are bar codes applied to interfaced assets?
If the interfaced assets are part of the physical inventory, each item must have a unique bar code associated with it. There are two ways to assign a bar code to an item. Either way requires you to manually specify the bar code in the bar-code field of the item.
-
If the items already have non-Lawson bar codes and you want to keep them, specify the appropriate bar code in each item bar-code field. When the item is interfaced to Asset Management as part of an "Entered" asset, the bar code you specified is assigned to the asset in Asset Management and can never be assigned again.
-
To add new item bar codes to each interfaced item, the process is as follows:
-
Request as many bar codes as you need from the bar code printer. Printing bar-code labels
-
Affix a bar code (in any order) to each item, taking great care to note the number of the bar code you affixed on each item.
-
For each item, specify the bar code manually in the bar-code field of the non-Lawson or Lawson item interface file.
When the items are interfaced to Asset Management as part of an "Entered" asset, the bar code you specified is assigned to the asset in Asset Management and can never be assigned again.
The Asset Management bar-coding implementation requires each item bar code to be unique within Asset Management. If you are using a mix of non-Lawson and Lawson bar codes, you must first interface the assets that have existing bar codes so that these bar codes are assigned in Asset Management before you request Lawson bar codes for the other asset items. If you do not interface existing bar codes first, you risk having duplicate bar codes.
