Propagating Metadata

  1. In the DWD menu options, click Metadata.
  2. Select Import Metadata.
  3. Select a SQL server version. This feature is only available to SQL server platforms.
  4. Log in to the SQL instance where the data source database to be compared is located.
  5. Select the reference data source database to compare it with.
  6. Check the Propagate Metadata check box. For M3 Metadata, check the M3 Override Data Type check box.
Note: M3 Override Data Type converts M3 objects with numeric data types to their corresponding DWD supported data types (For example, numeric (0,3) is converted to smallint).
  7. Click Next.
  8. From the drop-down menu, select a system.
  9. From the drop-down menu, select a schema.
  10. While the data sources are being compared, wait for the list of objects to load.
Note: These are the labels for modified objects:
    CHANGED
Objects that have changes like rename or data type change.
    NEW
Objects that are added to the source.
    DELETED
Objects that are removed from the source.
  11. Select the objects to propagate. You can:
    1. Manually select objects.
    2. Select a propagation level from the Propagation Level menu.
      Table 1. Propagation levels
      Propagation level Description
Default Customized propagation. Manually select objects.
Staging: <System name> Automatically select and propagate only staging objects.
Catalog: <Catalog name> Automatically select and propagate only staging and catalog objects.
Datamart: Default Datamart for DWD Automatically select and propagate all staging, catalog, and datamart objects.
Note: If you choose to manually select objects, they will have a default propagation level. The default level propagates the changes of the selected objects only to their respective level of propagation. For example, manually selecting a catalog object will propagate that specific object up to the catalog level.

Deleted objects cannot be selected and will not be propagated automatically.

  12. Optionally, you can export a detailed list of objects with changes.
    1. Specify the directory where the file will be exported to.
    2. Click Export to CSV.
Note: A .csv file with detailed list of all the objects with changes will be created. The default path is the server temporary folder, C:\Temp.
  13. Click Finish. The selected objects will propagate up to the selected propagation level.
