Tasks in SQL

This section describes tasks that you need to perform in SQL server that are specific to DWD Designer. Please refer to Microsoft documentation for information on all other SQL server functionality.

You can perform the following tasks in SQL :

  • Create an OLAP cube

  • Set up ETL job schedules

  • Import an Excel file to SQL using Integration Services

  • Back up DWD database

Infor makes the following recommendations regarding DWD database backup:

  • Back up repository

During the DWD implementation process, you should back up the repository database on a regular basis. This should be daily if the implementation is being worked on intensively. When the solution is developed and running, you should back up when any changes are made to the solution.

  • Back up Data Mart

The structure of a data mart does not change except when the solution is changed and recompiled.

  • Back up OLAP Cube

As soon as you start creating OLAP cubes, you should also start regular backup. During solution development, Infor recommends a daily backup. If you have a separate OLAP server, make sure that the databases are included in the backup.
