DWD Main Menu Options and Icons
This section describes all main menu options and all icons used in DWD.
Main Menu Options
The following table describes the DWD menu options in the main menu and in all right-click menus.

Background jobs (open) | Run background jobs in full or stepped mode. You can filter the

DWD administrators (open) | Add, edit or delete DWD administrators. | |
Check repository | Open the maintenance and repair wizard. | |
Column property view (set) | Select normal or extended view of column properties. | |
Compare system metadata | Compare metadata across systems. | |
Compilation manager (open) | Compile objects in the correct order. | |
Compilation options (open) | Access the settings in the compilation tab of the preferences dialog. | |
Compile all pending objects | Compile all pending objects. | |
Compile all (designer) | Right click designer component. | Compiles the designer component. |
Configuration wizard (open) | Open Configurator to manage connections, filters. | |
Create a new (designer component) | or right click on a designer component. | Create a designer component. Different options open different
dialogs or wizards. Composers (and tables) open the Create a New Composer (or table) dialog. Decoder opens the same dialog. Normalizer and de-Normalizer both open a wizard. Merger opens a Merger wizard; Splitter opens a Splitter dialog. |

Cut, copy, paste, delete selected objects. | |
Data management (access) | Correct exception management rows, edit slowly changing
dimensions and rollback an ETL session. Active with compiled objects that contain extracted data. |

Database platforms (open) | View, add, edit, delete database platforms. | |
Design options (open) | Access the settings in the design options tab of the preferences dialog. | |
Display object by status | List objects according to their status. | |
Display options | Access the settings in the display tab of the preferences dialog. | |
Edit dictionary structure | Personalize the dictionary structure. | |
ETL profiles | Change the way the ETL process extracts and loads data. | |
ETL statistics (open) | Show statistics groups. | |
Event log viewer | View event logs and messages. | |
Exit | Exit or logoff the DWD Designer. | |
Export metadata | Export metadata for use in other DWD installations. | |
Filter metadata | Make selected metadata objects visible or invisible. | |
Import custom DTS and stored procedures | Open a wizard to import custom DTS and stored procedures created outside DWD. | |
Import metadata | Import metadata from a data source to a system and schema. | |
Index wizard | Create and edit indexes using a wizard. | |
Install measurement module | Open install script wizard to install a BMM. | |
Job manager (open) | Create, edit, delete jobs. | |
Languages | Add and edit languages for use in DWD. | |
Measure Statistics | Execution | Show Measure Statistics for fact tables. |
Microsoft management console | Start the local Microsoft management console. | |
New data source system | Create a new data source. | |
Object ownership | Modify the object owner by transferring objects from one user to another. | |
Object production status | Lock or unlock objects. | |
Object property view | Select normal or process options view of object properties. | |
Object usages | Switch or modify the way an object is used. | |
ODBC administrator (local) | Start the local ODBC administrator. | |
Online ETL execution | Execute an ETL process for selected tables. | |
Options | Access the settings in the repository properties tab of the preferences dialog. | |
Preferences | Access the settings in the general tab of the preferences dialog. | |
Print the current view. | ||
Refresh (screen) | Refresh the display. | |
Relations manager (open) | Create and edit relationships between objects. | |
Remap unmapped columns | Find and remap columns that are not mapped. | |
Search | Search for metadata objects in the repository. | |
Security | Change the access security to DWD. This feature is password protected. | |
Server messages | Displays the DWD Event Viewer which shows DWD event logs and error messages. | |
Set company/division filter | Edit general filters. | |
Shortcuts to designers (use) | Access existing components in each design component group. | |
Show extended properties | Turn extended properties on or off. | |
SQL server current activity (view) | View the current activity of the SQL server. | |
SSIS Property Settings | Change the default settings for SIS package properties. Properties include Isolation Levels, Transaction Options, and Encryption Options. | |
Status bar (show) | Turn on or off the status bar at the bottom of the DWD Designer user interface. | |
System connections (manage) | View, add, edit, delete system connections. | |
System property view (view) | Select normal or extended view of system properties. | |
Toolbar (show) | View | Change the toolbar at the top of DWD Designer. |
Transform to catalog | Transform (import) objects from a data source to a catalog. | |
Update catalog | Update selected catalog objects. | |
User defined code | Edit user-defined code. | |
Variables | Manage variables. | |
Wizards | Access all wizards. |

DWD Icons
Certain DWD icons can be overlaid with an icon mask.
Icon | Description |
---|---|
White check mark on blue disc. | Object has been compiled into SQL format. |
Black exclamation mark on yellow. | Once compiled objects that need to be re-compiled because of changes. |
Dotted underline. | Objects that have never been compiled. |
Export to File
To export data into a file, click the icon at the upper-right corner of the DWD main panel.
