Using the DWD metadata synchronizer tool

The DWD synchronizer tool can be used for the deletion and update of obsolete metadata from a source profile, such as a development profile, to a destination or production profile. Use the Synchronizer tool to align the deletion with the production profile.

Note:
  • The synchronizer tool deletes objects. Updates are done by using the import and export features of DWD Designer.

  • The tool is not applicable to property changes such as activation or deactivation of columns, status, visibility, implementation types of objects.

  • The synchronizer tool checks if an item is shared between one or more BMMs. A shared object will only be hooked off a certain BMM.

Ensure that the development and production profiles are aligned, meaning both should have the same BMMs installed.

Use the DWD synchronizer tool

  1. Delete catalog objects in the development profile.
  2. Export the BMM. See Exporting DWD Model and Model Groups.
  3. In the production profile, import the BMM that you exported. See Importing metadata.
  4. Run the synchronizer tool by accessing DWD Designer and selecting Administration > Wizards > Maintenance and Repair.

Alternatively, in the DWD Solution tab, click Maintenance Tasks and click Start the Maintenance and Repair Wizard.

    Note:

The synchronizer tool must be run immediately after importing the BMM.

  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Custom and click Finish.

The Maintenance & Repair Console window is displayed.

  7. Select Detect and remove obsolete BMM metadata.
  8. Select the BMM or BMMs that were updated and click the Start button.

All metadata that is detected as obsolete is displayed. Objects that have been altered can be selected and are available for deletion.

  9. Inspect all available choices. You can decline deleting specific items on the list.
    Note:

For each object selected for deletion, there is a corresponding SQL statement to be executed by the tool. The statement can be inspected in the lower panel of the screen.

  10. Click the Confirm and Correct button.

A message indicating "The repository has been checked" is displayed. This indicates that the synchronizer tool was run successfully.

  11. Click the Close button.
  12. Verify that the deleted objects in the development profile were also deleted in the production profile.
