Using the ODBC Data Source Administrator

The ODBC Data Source Administrator is a Microsoft tool for managing ODBC connections. This procedure provides basic information on how to use the ODBC Data Source Administrator when connecting DWD to a data source.

The data source name (DSN) is a data structure used to describe a connection to a database. A DSN specifies the parameters of a connection. Your DWD client needs connections to one or more data sources.

Use the ODBC Data Source Administrator to create a new data source list for DWD.

Create a new data source list

  1. Navigate to System Connections > ODBC tab > ODBC Administrator button.
  2. Select one of the tabs, depending on the location of the data source and the accessibility of the connection.
    • User DSN

    • System DSN

    • File DSN

  3. Click Add to open the Create New Data Source list.
  4. Select the driver that is designed to work with the DBMS you are connecting to.
