Building a Custom Metadata Package

You can build custom metadata by connecting to a data source and defining its properties in Infor Business Vault Data Warehouse Designer. Custom metadata can be exported to a script and dynamically installed to a profile.

To build a custom metadata package:

  1. From the DWD Designer, select View Profiles and the development profile you created. View Profiles. Then, select the development profile you created. See "Set up the DWD Server" in Infor Business Vault Data Warehouse Designer Installation Guide.
  2. On the Data Sources tab, right-click All Data Sources and select New Data Source System.
  3. Specify the system name. The name should match the data source reference column in the cross-reference tables. See Cross-Reference Tables.
  4. Specify other system properties of the Source System being created.
  5. Click OK.
Note: When creating a new version of metadata, select the category of the last metadata version available under Lawson Applications. This provides the standard values of System Category and Category Code in the Build Catalog Wizard and can be modified from there.
  6. Select Metadata > Import Metadata. Then, select the source of the metadata structure. When importing metadata, ensure that the Transform to Catalog checkbox in advanced settings is unchecked. See Importing metadata.
  7. To run the Build Catalog Metadata Wizard against the data source system, right-click the system and select Build Catalog Metadata. Alternatively, select Metadata > Build Catalog Metadata.
  8. In the Build Catalog Metadata Wizard, verify the data source system selected. Select Include only objects with catalog references to delete objects that are not found in the cross-reference tables. If unchecked, the wizard does not delete nor update objects not found in the cross-reference tables. Then, click Next.
Note: The Build Catalog Metadata Wizard cannot be run on a data source system with catalog objects Select Append System Name to Catalog Name, to append the system name to catalog objects.
  9. Select the application category as M3, S3, or Other Source. When M3 or S3 is selected, input the Category Code and System Category Code. Then, click Next.
  10. Review the catalog system to be built. A preview of the changes the wizard will make to the data source objects is shown.
  11. Click Build to start running the wizard against the data source system.
  12. After running the wizard, create or install other catalog objects, such as normalizers, denormalizers, mergers, splitters, filters, and relations, that need to be included in the metadata scripts.
  13. After the metadata is built, the source and catalog components can be exported to a source and catalog script, which can be installed thru Server Setup. To start the export process, select Metadata > Export Metadata.
  14. Select Systems and click Next.
  15. Select the Data Source System and the Catalog System for exporting.
  16. For multiple data source systems, Infor recommends that you select Include only Catalog Objects with Source System selected to filter out catalog objects of the other data source systems in the DWD profile. Then, click Next.
  17. Complete the rest of the wizard. Note the path where the source and catalog scripts will be generated.
  18. Click Finish to start the export.
