Updating qualified moving expenses

You must report qualified moving expenses in Box 12 of your W-2 form. You can exclude moving expenses from taxable income if the employee can deduct them for tax purposes.

Qualified moving expenses are reimbursements for moving expenses that are excludable from income and are not reported as W-2 wages.

Qualified moving expenses print with a code P in Box 12 of the W-2 form.

For 2018, moving expense reimbursements are no longer excludable except for employees who moved as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces.

A payroll year is required.
