Creating manual work orders

You create work orders in two ways: manually and through production scheduling.

See Production Order demand, Work orders, and How do I schedule production? for more details.

Use this procedure to create work orders manually.

Create manual work orders

  1. Access Work Order (WO30.1).
  2. Use this form to manually create and maintain work orders. The finished good must be in Released status. Update form actions that can be performed are:
    • Add manual work orders.

    • Change information on existing work orders.

    • Release unreleased work orders.

    • Explode released work orders.

    • Re-explode work orders that have been exploded.

    • Place work orders into production.

    • Delete work orders. This deletes or cancels work orders, depending on the status of the work order and the work order numbering method used.

Note: After deleting using WO30, the work order is still marked as scheduled, and not available for rescheduling.

    Specify this information:

    Company

Select a company number defined on Company (IC01.1).

    Location

Select a valid stock location as defined on Location (IC02.1). It is also the production facility where finished goods are produced for work orders.

    Work Order

Select a work order. This field identifies the work order and can be automatically assigned or manually assigned, depending on the option defined for each production (inventory) location.

    Work Order Suffix

This field will normally be zero for a work order. If you chose to split a work order so the completed part of the finished goods can be available for allocation, the work order created for the remaining quantity will have a non-zero value in this field.

    Item

Select the finished good for which you want to schedule production.

  3. Use the Finished Good tab to type information that applies to the production of the finished good on this work order. The estimated and actual costs display for components, packaging, burdens, and total unit cost. Specify this information:
    Production Dates

Type the production start and end dates for the work order.

    Date Needed

Type the date needed for the finished good.

    Byproducts

Use Work Order Byproducts (WO30.2) to type the estimated quantity of the byproduct that will be produced as a result of the process that creates the finished good for this work order.

The finished good must be in the Released status.

    Planned Quantity

Type the planned quantity for the finished good being produced by this work order.

    Production Credit Account

Select a production credit account unit to record credit to a production facility for finished goods produced.

    Burden Absorption Account

Select a burden absorption account unit to record burden expenses associated with a production facility.

  4. Use the Components tab to type information for components that are used to create the finished good on this work order. Specify this information:
    Line Action

Select the line action you want to perform. You can add, change, or delete components from a work order.

You can insert one to four blank lines above this line. Select X (Insert) form action to perform this action.

    Item

    Select the component item.

    Inv Loc

Select the inventory location from which component is taken, or the offsite location for offsite components.

    Planned Quantity

Type the planned quantity for a component on a work order.

    Type

Select the component type. The component type specifies the component as an inventory component used in the production of the finished good, a packaging component, an offsite component, or a rework component.

    User

Use User Analysis (WO30.4) to define information for this transaction. A user analysis is a flexible, user-defined element, much like an accounting unit, account, or attribute that stores transaction information you can use for reports and analysis. You can use a user analysis to track multiple elements of business data.

    More

Use Additional Component Info (WO30.3) to define Waste, Material Expense, and User Analysis information for this component.

  5. Use the Burdens tab to type information for burdens associated with this work order. Specify this information:
    Code

Select the burden code. The burden code identifies a burden that has cost and rate information which is used to determine costs in addition to inventory item costs associated with a production process.

    Flat Amount

Type the estimated amount for flat amount burdens.

    Per FG Unit

Type the estimated amount per unit used in the calculation of per finished good burdens and per burden unit burdens.

    Per Burden Unit

The estimated amount per burden unit displays in this field.

    Percent

Type the estimated percentage (used along with inventory cost) for the calculation of percentage of inventory cost burdens.

    Unit of Measure

A unit of measure other than stock, that is used to determine burden costs associated with producing a finished good. This amount is an estimate, defaulted from the finished good definition.

    Estimated Quantity

Type the estimated quantity used, along with estimated amount per unit and estimated multiplier for the calculation of per burden unit burdens.

    User

Click the User button to transfer to User Analysis (WO30.4) to define information for this transaction. A user analysis is a flexible, user-defined element, much like an accounting unit, account, or attribute, that stores transaction information you can use for reports and analysis. You can use a user analysis to track multiple elements of business data.

  6. Use the User Fields tab to type user-defined fields and a user-defined date. Specify this information:
    WO User Field

Type user-defined data in this field. For example, you can use this field to cross-reference work order numbers.

    WO User Date

    Type a user-defined date.

    User Analysis

This field identifies the user analysis values included in the transaction.

Select the user analysis value you want to include in the transaction. If you choose to type values, use commas to separate them. For example:

    value1,value2,value3,value4

For information, see the Strategic Ledger User Guide.

    Extra User Field

Type additional user-defined data in these fields.

  7. Select the Add form action.
  8. Select the Release form action.
