Adding burden codes and types

Burdens are the cost of production, such as labor, utilities, and machine setup. You assign burden types to each burden to determine how the application calculates the total cost associated with a burden. Burdens are assigned to finished goods to determine what your non-inventory production costs are.

See Burden for more details.

This procedure explains how to add burden codes and types.

Add burden codes and types

  1. Access Burdens (IC63.1) to define a burden.
  2. Use this form to add and maintain valid burdens for a production facility. Burdens must be set up on this form prior to being used on a finished goods template or added to a work order in the Production Order application. Specify this information:
    Company

Select the company number for which you want to add a burden.

    Location

Select a location within the company inventory. This location also is the production facility where finished goods are produced for work orders in the Production Order application.

    Burden Code and Description

Type a burden code and description that you want to identify burden costs and rates for. The information is used to determine costs associated with a simple production process. The costs are in addition to inventory item costs.

    Status

Select the status of the burden: Active or Inactive. If you select Inactive, the burden cannot be used as a burden on any finished good template and cannot be added to a work order as an additional burden.

    GL Account

Type or select an accounting unit you want defaulted to burdens when no account information is specified. The defaulting occurs when the burdens are added to finished good templates.

    Vendor

Select a vendor code that the burden is associated with.

    Burden Type

Select the method the application should use to calculate burden costs.

    A = Flat amount

F = Amount per finished good unit

P = Percent of finished good per inventory cost

U = Amount per burden unit

The burden type determines the kind of calculation used to arrive at the total cost associated with the burden.

  3. Select the tab that matches the burden type you selected. Type the appropriate amount. You receive an error message if, for example, you select a burden type of flat amount and try to type an amount on the Per Burden Unit tab.
