GeoCodes

Vertex uses GeoCodes, or geographic codes, as its basic tax authority identifier. GeoCodes identify specific tax jurisdictions in:

• States, counties, and cities in the United States

• U.S. possessions, territories, and trusts

• Provinces and cities in Canada

After a GeoCode is assigned to a jurisdiction, the tax rates for that jurisdiction can be retrieved from the Vertex tax rate directory. This fast tax rate retrieval process enables Vertex to calculate taxes accurately.
