Defining Strategic Ledger data mart dimensions

As part of setting up a data mart, you must define specific dimensions for each data mart type. This is to define the structure for your data mart. Use this procedure to define required and optional dimensions for an Strategic Ledger data mart.

Procedure flow: defining dimensions for the Activity data mart

Follow these steps to define dimensions for the Strategic Ledger data mart:

  1. Access Data Mart Manager (IA10.1).
  2. Inquire on the data mart for which you want to define dimensions. This data mart should have a Subject matter type of SL (Strategic Ledger Data Mart).
  3. Click Parameters to access Strategic Ledger Data Mart Setup (SLDM.1), the setup form for the strategic ledger data mart type.
  4. Specify a dimension name for each required dimension and for each optional dimension that you will use.
Note: If the dimension was already defined in another data mart, then select the dimension name.

You can define a dimension once and use it in multiple data marts, such as defining Periods or Years once for all data marts.

  5. Click Define for the SL Dim Group to open Define Strategic Ledger Dimension Group (SLDM.2). Use this form to select the strategic ledger defined in Strategic Ledger (SL50.1) that you will use to report information. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Ledger

Specify or select a ledger that you will use to report information.

Select Load Segments to load the user analyses defined for the ledger that you selected. The user analyses that you defined in SL50.1 displays in the segment column.

    Dimension Name

The user analysis values that you defined will display.

    Prefix

Specify up to five alphanumeric characters to define a member prefix for the dimension. The prefix is a unique identifier that you can use to avoid duplication of data values in the data mart.

  6. (Optional) Click More on SLDM.2 to open Dimension Options (SLDM.3). Use this form to define additional information for the segment dimension. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Alias Option

Specify or select optional segment identification to name dimension information. These are your options:

To include each user analysis identifier and its description, select Value Desc.

To include each value identifier, select Value.

To include each user analysis description, select Description.

    View

Specify or select a user analysis view to include in the dimension. This view is used to subtotal user analysis amounts for reports and analysis. The user analysis view must exist in the Attribute Matrix system, View (MX20.1).

    Null Value Member

This field contains the user-defined member name for any values that are not defined as a product in this dimension. This name can contain up to 30 characters of any kind.

  7. Click Define for the Years Dimension to open Define Strategic Ledger Year Dimension (SLDM.4). Use this form to define the years dimension. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Member Prefix

Specify up to five alphanumeric characters to define a member prefix for the dimension. The member prefix is a unique identifier that you can use to avoid duplication of data values in the data mart.

    Year

Define the years that you will include.

    Alias Name

Define a member name, such as 2000, for each year.

  8. (Optional) Click Define for the Scenarios Dimension to open Define Strategic Ledger Scenario Dimension (SLDM.5) to define the Scenario dimension. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Dimension Name

Specify or select a dimension name that you want to describe the scenario.

    Member Prefix

Specify up to five alphanumeric characters to define a member prefix for the dimension. The member prefix is a unique identifier that you can use to avoid duplication of data values in the data mart.

    Actuals

Specify a member name for actual posted amounts.

    Budgets

Specify a member name for a budget.

  9. (Optional) Click Define for the Type Dimension to open Define Strategic Ledger Type Dimension (SLDM.6). Use this form to define the dimension. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Dimension Name

Specify or select a dimension name that you want to describe the type.

    Member Prefix

Specify up to five alphanumeric characters to define a member prefix for the dimension. The member prefix is a unique identifier that you can use to avoid duplication of data values in the data mart.

    Amounts

Specify a member name for the amounts.

    Units

Specify a member name for units.
