User analysis

A user analysis is a user-defined analysis category, similar to an accounting unit, account, or attribute. User analyses store business information in Strategic Ledger transactions, which become dimensions that you define for analysis and reporting. Each user analysis can include values, classes, or blank values. These values are in addition to the standard accounting information.

Note: Take advantage of existing data when considering the user analyses you need. Company/accounting unit, account/subaccount, activity and account category, and transaction attributes are all available dimensions for a strategic ledger.

For each user analysis, you will define a description, type, and size of data that will be stored, such as a 20-character alpha field or a 5-digit numeric field. You can have as many user analyses as you need as long as the size of the data for all user analyses in a transaction, including the comma separator automatically placed between each field, does not exceed 103 characters. See User analysis group.

Some examples of user analyses include:

  • Product line or service line

    • Product or service

    • Channel

    • Distribution method

    • Market

    • Client/customer

    • Contract

    • Service provider

    • Client/customer type

    • Client/customer SIC code

    • Cost category or type

    • Donation type

    • Claims information

Business example

Moose Wood Outfitters defined a user analysis MWO_DIST to identify and limit distribution methods. Next they will define user analysis values, which are used to limit the information allowed on transactions.
