About Report Writer report
A Report Writer report is a customized report that you create in the Report Writer application to display General Ledger data. At the most basic level, a report is made up of lines going down the page (row) and columns going across the page (format). Formats also contain heading and report title information. You define rows and formats separately for ease of maintenance and greater flexibility in report creation.
With Report Writer, you can define three basic types of reports, referred to as Style 1, Style 2, and Style 3 reports. The style of the report is based on the kind of information that displays down the page in the rows of the report. This table shows the three different ways to organize a report:

Style 1 report
A Style 1 report lists accounts down the page. A Balance Sheet is a good example of a Style 1 report.

Style 2 report
A Style 2 report lists organizational levels, such as accounting units, down the page. A Salary and Wage Analysis is a good example of a Style 2 report.

Style 3 report
A Style 3 report lists a combination of accounts and levels down the page. An Income Statement report is a good example of a Style 3 report, because the accounts and accounting units being reported on change going down the page.
