Defining an attribute

Use this procedure to assign a name and associate it with an element and object type. Optionally, you can assign a range of values and a company group to the attribute.

  1. Select Attribute (MX00.1).
  2. To define an element, right-click the Element field. Select Define to access Element (MX00.2).
  3. Use these guidelines to specify the field values:
    Element Name

The element name does not have to match the attribute name, since several attributes can use the element. The name must be unique in the system.

    Data Type

Options are A (Alpha) D (Date) N (Numeric)

Note: S (Signed Numeric) is reserved for Lawson-defined elements.
    Field Size

The maximum field size depends on the data type. Alpha (up to 20 characters) Date (up to eight characters) Numeric (up to18 characters)

  4. Specify this information:
    Attribute

Select a name that identifies the attribute that you will define or maintain. Provide also a description of the attribute.

    Column Heading

Specify a column heading for reports where the attribute is used.

    Element Name

Select an element. The element identifies attribute parameters such as the data used to define the attribute and the field size.

    From Value

Specify the beginning value that you will include in the attribute.

    Through Value

Specify the ending value that you will include in the attribute. If this field is blank, then the beginning value is the default setting.

    Description

Provide a description for the value range.

  5. Click Objects.
  6. Specify this information:
    Object Type

Select the object type that you will assign to the attribute. The object type determines where you can use the attribute.

    Required

If you select Y, then a message states values are not defined for required attributes and prevents you from releasing the asset.

    Apply to Object Group

Select the attribute to a company group, manual activity group lists, manual account category lists, user analysis, account group, or cash code groups.
