Defining Stock Option Grants

Use this procedure to define stock option grants.

Before you define stock option grants, define a vesting schedule on Vesting Schedule (BN03.1).

To define stock option grants

  1. Access Stock Option Grants (BN23.1).
  2. Complete the main information using the following guidelines:
    Grant

Type a code for the stock option grant pool.

    Status

Select whether or not the grant is active.

    Stock

Select the stock code for the stock used for the stock option grant.

    Grant Date

Type the date of the grant.

    Grant Price

Type the price of the grant.

This is the default price that those receiving options would pay for a share of the stock when they exercise the option.

    Expiration Date

Type the date this grant expires. If you select Incentive in the Type field and leave this field blank, the expiration date will be the grant date plus 10 years.

    Type

Select whether the grant is an incentive or non-qualified stock option grant.

    Employee Group

Select an employee group. Only employees in this group are eligible for this stock option grant. If you leave this field blank, any employee can be enrolled.

Once employees are enrolled in a stock option grant, the employee group criteria will not control their participation. They will continue to stay in the grant.

  3. Define the pool information using the following guidelines:
    Option Pool

Type total number of shares available for this grant pool. This will be updated for stock splits.

    Forfeited Shares

Select whether or not the forfeited shares should be returned to the stock option as available pool.

    Expired Shares

Select whether or not the expired shares should be returned to the stock option as available pool.

  4. Define the vesting information using the following guidelines:
    Vesting Schedule

Select the default vesting schedule applied to grant when given to employee. You can overwrite this on Employee Stock Option Grant Mass Entry (BN33.1).

    Vesting Type

Select the type of schedule used to determine vesting; for example, annual, semi-annual, quarterly, and so on.

    Vesting From

Select the default date used to start the employee vesting calculations. If you are using a vesting schedule, you must enter either a value in this field or a date in the next field.

    Vesting To

Type the default date used to start the employee vesting calculations. If you are using a vesting schedule, you must enter either a date in this field or a value in the previous field.

    or Date

Type the date on which employees will become 100 percent vested (cliff type vesting). If you type a value in this field, leave the other vesting fields blank.

    Stop Vesting on Term

Select whether or not vesting will stop upon an employee's termination.

For example, select Yes in this field to stop the vesting upon termination. If an employee is terminated when he or she is 80 percent vested, it would continue at 80 percent until their shares were moved by batch program to forfeited.

Select No stop the vesting upon termination. If an employee is terminated when he or she is 50 percent vested the employee will continue vesting according to the vesting schedule until their shares are moved by a batch program to forfeited.

  5. Define the Market information using the following guidelines:
    Fair Market Value

Type the fair market value. If you leave this field blank, it defaults from Stock Definition (BN07.1).

    Market Valuation Date

Type the market valuation date. If you leave this field blank, the date defaults from Stock Definition (BN07.1).

  6. Define setup information using the following guidelines:
    Web Available

Select whether or not employee grants for this stock option grant will be available for web viewing.

    Web Supervisor Available

Select whether or not employee grants for this stock option grant can be viewed by managers.

  7. Define the currency information.
    Exchange Rate
