Disposing of assets from a handheld terminal
Use this procedure to dispose of whole or partial assets only when the assets are part of the physical inventory.
Asset items must be bar-coded items and part of the physical inventory to be disposed with this method. The assets the items are associated with must be in Released state. Setting up bar coding
Dispose of assets from a handheld terminal
- Select the Asset Disposal function on the handheld terminal.
- Specify or scan the bar code for each item to be disposed.
- Select a disposal method or accept the default disposal method (Retired).
-
Scan the "Dispose To" location and optional
location detail.
Note: You can scan the location and location detail from the space label of the space the disposed item is located in, or from the Location Detail Workbook for the location.
The "Dispose To" location is required only for inventory purposes. It is not interfaced to the Asset Management application. The disposal locations you define should be used only for disposals. For example, you could define a location named SCRAP for items that are scrapped.
-
Interface the HHT data to the Asset Management application.
- Save and download the HHT transfer file, named xx -AMDSP.txt, to the client PC.
- Transfer xx -AMDSP.txt to your environment by using a transfer utility such as ftp.
-
Use AM Bar Code File Interface (AM154) to interface xx
-AMDSP.txt to the Asset Management AMASSETDSP (Unix/Windows) or DBAMASD (IBMi) file.
Specify this information:
- Process Type
-
Select DSP (Disposal).
- File Name
-
If you changed the system-assigned file name of xx -AMDSP.txt, specify the name of the file in this field.
If you kept the system-assigned file name, the program automatically locates and processes xx -AMDSP.txt.
Note: The HHT disposals exist in the Asset Management application as unreleased disposals.
-
Process the asset disposal:
- Access Disposals (AM40.1).
- Inquire on the existing unreleased disposals.
-
This procedure described elsewhere in this user guide. Disposing of individual assets
The assets to be disposed are preselected to match the handheld terminal selections. You cannot change the selections without causing inventory mismatch errors. You must complete the rest of the disposal process as described for the method you select.
