Generating a Location Detail Workbook

Use this procedure to define location details and generate a Location Detail Workbook

You must define a location before you can define a location detail. You should also plan the location detail naming scheme before you start assigning location details to assets. Defining locations

Procedure flow: Generating a Location Detail Workbook

Generate a Location Detail Workbook

  1. Access Location Detail (AM07.3).
  2. Define the location details. Specify this information:
    Location

This is a required field. The location detail must be assigned to a location.

    Detail Field Size:Level 1, Level 2, Level 3

You must specify the maximum character size for each of the location detail levels you are going to use (at the minimum, Level 1). Asset Management uses these fields to parse the location detail bar code into its components. The total of the three levels cannot exceed 14 characters.

Note: All the location details you specify for a specific location are held to the character limits you specify in these fields. You can have a single level-1 location detail of up to 14 characters, or a level-1 and level-2 location detail of up to 14 characters, or a level-1, level-2, and level-3 location detail of up to 14 characters.
    Level 1, Level 2, Level 3
    • For each level, specify the name of the location detail for that level. The names are alphanumeric and must be within the size limits defined in the Dtl Field Size.

    • You cannot specify a level 2 location detail without a level 1 location detail, and you cannot specify a level 3 location detail without a level 1 and a level 2 location detail.

Note: You can specify an unlimited number of location details for any location. Each location detail line must be unique.
  3. Use the GeO Location tab to store the location's longitude, latitude, and altitude.
  4. Generate the Location Detail Workbook, using Location Detail Workbook (AM207).

    Specify this information:

    Location

This field is required. You generate a separate workbook for each location.

Level 1 Detail, Level 2 Detail, Level 3 Detail
    • If you leave all three fields blank, all the location details for the location are included in the workbook.

    • If you specify a value in the Level 1 field, and leave the Level 2 and Level 3 fields blank, the workbook includes all the location details that share the same Level 1 value.

    • If you specify a value in the Level 1 and Level 2 fields, and leave the Level 3 field blank, the workbook includes all the location details that share the same Level 1 and Level 2 values.

    • If you specify a value in the Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 field the workbook includes a single location detail.

Note: If you specify a Level 2 value, you must also specify a Level 1 value. If you specify a Level 3 value, you must also specify values for Level 1 and Level 2. All the values you specify in these fields must already exist as location detail levels.
  5. Print and apply space labels for any location details you need. Printing bar-code labels

Follow-up tasks

  • Send the Location Detail Workbook print file to a bar-code printer to print a workbook with a scannable location and location details.
