Generating a Product Category Workbook

Use this procedure to generate a Product Category Workbook. The product category is optional information that includes the manufacturer and model number of an asset item. You can scan the manufacturer ID in the Workbook to include that information when you add an item.

A product category is attached to an asset type or subtype. You must define the type or subtype before you can define a product category for it. Defining an asset type

Generate a Product Category Workbook

  1. Access Product Category (AM06.3).
  2. Define the product categories, specify this information:
    Company, Type

    These fields are required.

    Manufacturer ID

    Specify an alphanumeric ID that uniquely identifies the manufacturer.

    Note: Each manufacturer and model number combination must be unique.
    Manufacturer, Model Number

    These fields are required and print as text in the workbook.

    Note: Each manufacturer and model number combination must be unique.
    Description

    This field is optional.

  3. Generate the Product Category Workbook, using Product Category Workbook (AM206).

    Specify this information:

    Company, Company Group

    You must select a company or a company group. You cannot select both.

    Type

    If you select a type, the workbook includes only the product categories for that type. If you leave this field blank, the workbook includes all product categories for all types, sorted by company and type.

Follow-up task

Note: AM206 generates a unique bar code for each manufacturer ID and model number combination.

  • Send the Product Category Workbook print file to a bar-code printer to print a workbook with a scannable bar code.
