What Are Groups?
In Resource Management, a group is any assortment of people resources that you want to view in a unit. This would typically be a work group or department within your company. You can use the Resource Management repository to store all employees in your company, organized into departments, whether the employees are Lawson users or not.
Groups are not the same as roles. Roles are groups of tasks; groups are groups of people.
Typically, you will have determined, possibly in conjunction with your Lawson implementation consultants, some groups you need before you even install Resource Management.
When groups exist, you can assign resources to them. Here's a typical scenario:
-
Create the groups you need through the Resource Management Administrator
-
Perform a query to locate the people resources who should be in the group.
-
Perform mass assignment procedures as needed to assign the people resources to the groups.
You can also write rules for groups. For example, if you have a group called HR11 Users, you could write a rule that would, for example, give full access to HR11 to all members of the group.
