Lawson Environment Group utilities
The Lawson Environment provides some features that simplify distributing reports and other resource-sharing functions. These features are known collectively as the Environment Group utilities and include features to set up and manage user groups, printer groups, job queue groups, and report distribution groups. Lawson Security is compatible with these utilities.
For Lawson Portal users, the Environment
groups that apply are the distribution groups and printer groups. A distribution group for
Lawson Portal users is a set of users to whom reports can
be distributed, and printer groups determine which printers can be selected for a user when
that user is added to a distribution group. Administrators can set up distribution groups
either through the Distribution Group Definition utility (grpdef)
accessed in a Lawson Interface Desktop (LID) session or through the Distribution Group
Definitions form, which is available from the LSF Administration Tools menu in Lawson Portal. To set up printer groups, administrators can use
either the Printer Group Definition utility (prtgrpdef) accessed in a
Lawson Interface Desktop (LID) session or the Printer Group Definitions form, which is
available from the LSF Administration Tools menu in Lawson Portal. To set up distribution groups and printer groups, an administrator
must have security access to the grpdef and prtgrpdef executable objects in Lawson Security and, if using the Distribution Group
Definitions or Printer Group Definitions forms in Lawson Portal, must have the Portal Administrator attribute set to YES
in the RM Information screen in Lawson Security user
maintenance.
For administrators using the Lawson Interface Desktop (LID), the following Environment groups can be set up in order to configure what queues an administrator sees and to configure how reports can be distributed.
-
Job queue groups
-
Printer groups
-
Distribution groups
-
Distribution list groups
-
User groups
The administrator setting up environment groups must have access in the
Lawson Security Administrator to the executables listed below. Note that the executable names
in Lawson Security to not always match the command line name for the environment group
utility. Also, to use the equivalent forms available through the LSF Administration Tools menu
in Lawson Portal, the administrator must have the Portal
Administrator attribute set to YES
in the RM Information
screen in Lawson Security user maintenance.

After you have set up environment groups, an administrator uses the Environment Information screen in the Lawson Security Administrator to assign environment groups to each user. The user must already exist in Lawson before you can assign environment groups to him or her.
Complete information about the Environment Group utilities is in Lawson Administration: Jobs and Reports.
