User Setup in Lawson Security: Overview
This section provides an overview of the process of setting up users in Lawson Security. The information applies when you are adding users manually through the setup wizard that is provided through the Lawson Security Administrator.
Processes for auto-loading users into Lawson exist but are not covered in this section.
For more information, see the section "Auto-loading Lawson Users (loadusers)".
Adding a user to Lawson is not difficult, but it involves several procedures and requires some background knowledge. The topics that follow give a high-level overview of the procedures for adding a user. They also tell you where to look for background information.
Complete User Worksheet
Gathering information about users before you add them can save you time in the long run because it can prevent you from having to update a user entry multiple times. That is why preparing a checklist for each user that you plan to add to the system can be useful. You can use it to:
-
Help you remember questions that you need to ask the user or the user's manager.
-
Help you remember all the steps that you need to perform when you add a user.
-
Verify that you input information correctly when you test the user.
For more information, see the section "Checklist: Adding a User to Infor Lawson System Foundation".
Your Lawson installer might have given you a worksheet that has been customized for your installation.
Run the Add User Wizard
From the Lawson Security Administrator, you can run an Add User Wizard that walks you through the three screens that are needed to create an entry for a user. A user entry is not complete until all three screens have been filled out.
The screens are:
-
Add RM Information: A screen for adding and updating attributes that will be stored in the user entry in the LDAP.
You use Add RM Information to populate the following kinds of information:
-
Add an entry for the user in your LDAP. This information includes name, user ID, and other basic information. All users need this.
-
Assign security roles to users. These grant the user access to the programs and data that they need to perform their jobs. Typically, all users will have some roles assigned to them.
-
Assign any system-wide roles needed for users at your site.
-
Assign users to groups.
-
Assign special access rights as needed per an application (for example, "PortalAdministrator" role).
For more information, see the section "Adding a New Lawson User to Resource Management".
-
-
Add Identity: You will use Add Identity to add an identity on each Lawson component that requires authentication. All users need identities on the SSOP and Environment/OS services. Some users will need other identities, depending on which Lawson products they use.
For more information, see the section "Adding a New Lawson User to Resource Management".
For more information, see the section "Adding an Environment / Operating System Identity on Windows".
-
Add Environment Information: This screen is for populating group information, if necessary.
For more information, see the section "Add Environment Information (Basic) for the New User".
At some points in the wizard, you can stop, if necessary. The updates you have made up to that point will be saved. You can then return to the screens individually and finish adding the user. However, it is simpler to complete the wizard in a single run-through. (This is another reason why using a tool like a User Worksheet to gather all information about a user before you begin is a good idea.)
Make Sure the User Was Added Correctly
After you add the user, you can perform some simple smoke tests to make sure the user was added successfully.
For more information, see the section "Test a New Lawson User".
