Other Security Setup Tasks for EZShed
Louis had to perform some additional tasks before users could begin using Lawson. These tasks are described in this section.
Create a database user on the operating system
A database user is a user that runs the database that contains Lawson data. There are several ways that database users can be configured. In EZShed's case one user runs the database in background.
Actually, Louis did not create the database user. The Lawson consultant who installed the system added this user, created a special service for the database (DBSVC), and added an identity for dbuser on the service. No other EZShed users need identities on the database service.
Create bookmark groups (and any other user groups)
Lawson delivers bookmarks, links to content items, for easy navigation from Lawson Portal. Typically, Lawson Portal administrators have responsibility for assigning bookmarks to users. In installations with more users than EZShed has, users are organized into groups for easy distribution of bookmarks. Groups are assigned to users when they are added to the Lawson system and must, therefore, exist before users are added to the system. Because EZShed has so few users, bookmark groups are not needed. Louis simply assigned the users the bookmarks they needed.
Add users and identities to the system
Louis created a checklist which he followed when he added users to the system. Initially he logged in as an administrative user delivered by Lawson. After he created himself (louisb, per the user naming convention established at EZShed), he added all other users.
He created a user checklist to guide through the process. He will continue to use the checklist on an ongoing basis when new employees join EZShed and need to be added to the system.
