Setting Up User Access to Jobs and Reports
As an administrator, you can control several features related to jobs and reports. You can give users access to all features related to reports or to some of the features. The features that can be enabled or disabled for users are displayed on the General tab of Role Maintenance page.
These options can be enabled or disabled for all users or all users of a particular role. One way to secure access to features related to jobs and reports would be to create a role for users who require full access to the jobs and reports menu (for example, jobsandreports.xml). In your more general role that you assign to most users, include only the jobs and reports features they actually need, such as Job List or Print Files, or both.
Jobs and Reports access feature | Description |
---|---|
Allow Job List access | The Job List lists batch jobs for a user. (Batch jobs only, not online.) If a job has reports associated with it, they are accessible from this page. |
Allow Job Schedule access |
Job Scheduler is a tool that, typically, end-users does not require access to. Many administrators prefer to disable end-users' ability to access the Job Scheduler. By removing it from view in Lawson Portal, you are ensuring that even users who know the URL to reach Job Scheduler cannot access it. |
Allow Multi-Step Job Definition access | Not all users are required to create complex multi-step jobs. You can limit this access to only users who require it. |
Allow Recurring Job Definition access | This form is used for scheduling jobs to run on a recurring basis, which can also be accessed through the Recurring Job Definition link from the Related Forms menu. |
Allow Print Files access |
The Print Files option lists all the reports associated to a user, including reports created from online jobs. You can deny access to the print file queue. You might do this if, for example, you have restricted users to a specific printer. If the users cannot change their printers, there is no reason for them to access print files. |
Allow Job polling (Auto Monitor) |
Auto Monitor is a feature that ensures that the job queue is constantly refreshed with information about newly created jobs. When users activate the Auto Monitor icon on the job queue, they can watch refreshes happen in a separate window. Depending on how busy your site is, the constant traffic from monitoring could cause performance degradation. You might want to deny access to this feature altogether or allow it only for users, such as batch job processors, who actually require it. |
