Maintenance process
Performing routine maintenance ensures that the Lawson system performs optimally and functions properly. Routine maintenance includes, at a minimum, the following:
-
Performance monitoring and tuning
-
User and security maintenance
This includes adding and deleting users, and making changes to user security. See Lawson Administration: Resources and Security.
-
File cleanup
The Lawson system generates numerous files. To avoid disk space and performance problems, you must periodically remove these files. These files include print files, job logs, lapm logs (if you use LID), and user logs.
-
Backups
Lawson cannot dictate the details of your backup procedure, but Lawson strongly recommends that you develop a carefully planned, regularly scheduled backup procedure. This procedure should incude periodic testing of a restoration from the backup.
-
Hardware integrity checking
-
License updating
-
Software updating
To insure that you have the most reliable Lawson software, you should check regularly for patches and service packs from the Lawson support site. For instructions, see the appropriate installation guide.
-
Product line maintenance
For backup, test, and development purposes, you may choose to have multiple product lines. You may also want the additional product lines to be duplicates of another product line, such as your production application product line. You can create additional product lines, data areas, and data IDs as well as copy existing ones or parts of existing ones (such as the data only or one system code's programs only).
For more information about data areas and data IDs, also see the Lawson data access manual for your database.
-
Starting and stopping Lawson system
In order to resolve problems, perform backups, and so on, you will need to stop and start the Lawson system.
-
Translation maintenance
If you want localized, customized, or translated text on application and Environment forms, see Lawson Administration: Translation.
