Another Approach EZShed Could Have Taken

Lawson Security provides a method for quickly securing systems called "Security by Type." With this type of security, you can make all objects of a particular type available through a single rule. For example, if you wrote a role that gave access to all objects of type System Code, then whoever was assigned the rule would have access to every system code licensed at your company and could see all data.

Securing objects by type is very powerful. Typically, only system administrators need this level of access. Depending on the needs of your company, this much access might not be appropriate for anyone, including administrators. But, for a small company, like EZShed, in which power users need access to all products, writing by type rules might be a convenient way to give access.

Any company, even those for which by type rules are not a long-term solution, might find that writing by type rules could be a quick way to do system testing.

Information about how to construct by type rules is in Lawson Administration: Resources and Security.
