Overview of Parallel Upgrade Process

The purpose of a parallel upgrade is to install a separate 10.0.x Infor Lawson System Foundation Environment and then move data from your Infor Lawson System Foundation 9.0.1.9 or greater release Environment. It is basically an install-and-migrate process. The upgrade also assumes you upgrade several key third-party products to the releases required by the 10.0.x Infor Lawson System Foundation, such as the operating system and hardware, WebSphere Application Server ND, Java, and Cobol. The upgrade also includes upgrading Infor Lawson products such as the Lawson Portal and ProcessFlow (which is replaced by Infor Process Automation).

The separate 10.0.x Infor Lawson System Foundation Environment can be installed on the same machine or server (same-server upgrade) or on a different machine or server (separate-server upgrade). The data relevant to the technology layers are then moved or converted from the 9.0.1.9 or greater system into the 10.0.x system. When the upgrade is complete, you will have both a 9.0.1.9 or greater Environment and a 10.0.x Environment. When you are ready, you will switch to the new system and prevent access to the old system.

Note the following:

  • You must install the most recent service packs for your 9.0.1.9 Environment before you begin the upgrade.

  • In a separate-server parallel upgrade, the two machines must be the same platform or operating system.

  • You must upgrade the entire 9.0.1.9 or greater Environment to a 10.0.x Environment. That is, you cannot merge multiple 9.0.1.9 Environments into a single 10.0.x Environment and you cannot split the 9.0.1.9 Environment into multiple 10.0.x Environments.

  • This upgrade does not include an application upgrade. Before you upgrade, your applications must be a 9.0.0.x release of 9.0.0.5 or greater, or a 9.0.1.x release of 9.0.1.3 or greater. After upgrading to a 10.0.x Environment, you will need to upgrade your applications to 10.0.1 or higher. For information on the supported application levels, see the Lawson application upgrade documentation on Infor Concierge in the Infor Product Download Center under Lawson Applications > Lawson Applications - Upgrades.
