Changing File Appearance

Aspects of how the file looks on the screen, such as column width or whether special characters are visible, can be toggled. You can also display information helpful to editing a file, such as the clipboard or current file statistics.

To change a file’s appearance or view related information

  1. Press Show (F7).
  2. Select an option from the menu that appears.
    Choose To
    Maximize Expand the current window (where the cursor is located) to fill the entire window when multiple windows are open.
    Restore Return the windows to the normal view with all open windows visible.
    80/132 Column Toggle between 80 and 132 columns.
    Visuals/No Visuals Show or hide special characters.
    Line Numbers Toggle line numbers on and off.
    Parenthesis Move the cursor to the matching parenthesis, bracket, or brace.
    Character Show the value of the character the cursor is on.
    Clip Board Show the contents of the clipboard.
    Database file Show the database file definition (similar to dbdef). For more information, see Viewing Database File Definitions.
    Work File Show the work file definition (similar to workdef). For more information, see Viewing Work File Definitions.
    Keys Show the current definition of keys. Use the Find and the Next (FndNxt) keys to see the function assigned to any key.
    Man Page Display a UNIX man page. Type the UNIX command in the Display Man Page box that appears. The page is opened in a new window.
    File Info Show information about the file in the current window.
  3. Press OK.
