Optimizing performance

Lawson Portal provides features that you can use to improve performance.

In addition to configuring any of these options that apply to your situation, ensure to follow routine maintenance that can effect on performance.

Job Polling (Auto Monitor)

Job polling (also called auto monitoring) is a feature that ensures that the job queue is constantly refreshed with information about newly created jobs. If users activate the auto monitor icon, they can watch refreshes occur in a separate window.

Depending on how busy your site is, the constant traffic from refreshing could cause a performance hit. You might want to deny access to this feature altogether or allow it only for users who actually need it.

Access to job polling is enabled by default. Disable it for a role from the Role Manager General tab.

Limiting Data Page Size Options for Users

You can force a maximum number of records that users can retrieve per page in a data query, drill or select list. Retrieving large amounts of data can be a burden on system resources, especially when simultaneous users are retrieving data. From the Role Manager Options tab, you can set a required value for various types of fetches. Through roles, you can set a required value for most users but allow others (for example, power users) to change the fetch size as required.

For more information, see the section "Controlling Access to Individual User Options".
