The Language Definition Utility and the Language Definition Form

The Language Definition utility (langdef -- accessible in Lawson Interface Desktop) and the Language Definition form (in Lawson Portal) let you define the languages and dialects into which you want to translate Lawson information. You can use either the utility or the form to translate the following kinds of information on Lawson application forms and reports:

  • Phrases (for example, field labels, button labels, form tab labels, and column headings)

  • Messages for the Environment and Lawson applications

  • Titles

  • Value lists

  • Help text

  • Extended Translation (this field will display and allow input for extended phrase translations for a specified language)

  • Drill Around feature

Note: The base text for U.S. English is overwritten when Lawson delivers a patch or new release. To prevent your customized text from being overwritten, you must translate the text under a dialect, or under a language other than U.S. English.

After adding new translations or changing existing translations, you must run the Generate Foreign TranMap utility (genformap) to implement those additions or changes. Generating the Foreign TranMap
