Deleting Job Definitions, Jobs, and Print Files

In order to eliminate unused, unneeded, or obsolete jobs and reports, you may need to perform some clean up of the jobs and reports you are responsible for. Your system administrator may perform other clean up operations as well. An individual user can delete the following items, if that user created the items:

  • Job definitions.

You can delete job definitions through the individual batch parameter forms. You must delete job definitions for a batch update or report if the parameter form for the batch update or report changes (for example, the order of the parameters is changed). In that case, you must create the job definitions again using the new parameter form. For more information, see the section "To delete a job definition".

  • Jobs.

You delete jobs through the Job Scheduler forms--Active Jobs, Completed Jobs, or Waiting Jobs--depending on where the job is listed. If the job has not yet been processed, it is also removed from the job queue. For more information, see the section "To delete a job from the Job Scheduler".

  • Print files.

You delete print files through the Print Manager form. For more information, see the sections "To delete print files" and "To delete all print files for a user".

You should not delete a job with a status of Needs Recovery when that job is an update job. The update program related to the job failed while updating the database.

Because restart information is used during recovery to restart the program processing at the appropriate point, deleting the recovery information for an update job makes it impossible to recover the job through Batch Job Control.

Failure to recover the job using the related recovery information can corrupt the database and have a serious negative impact on future job executions.

When you delete a job with a status of Hold, Waiting, Waiting Step, Waiting On Time, Waiting Recovery, Queue Inactive, or Invalid Params, Job Scheduler stores it on the Completed Jobs form with a status of Canceled.

When you delete a job with a status of Needs Recovery, Job Scheduler stores it on the Completed Jobs form with a status of Recovery Deleted.
