How XML Drill Definitions Work

Standard Lawson Drill definitions are compiled from proprietary text definition to proprietary binary format. The LSF 9 Drill service reads the binary files and creates in-memory collections of the selects and drills. Creating customized drills in this way allows you to add select definitions in XML and add them to the in-memory collections.

This feature allows customers to add select definitions or modify delivered select definitions without modifying delivered code. If a customer creates a select definition with the same rule ID as a Lawson delivered select, the customer-created select overrides the delivered rule in the runtime collection. This does not affect delivered drill definitions. If the customer removes the custom select and reloads the runtime collection, the original Lawson delivered select is used.
