Defining Array Rules

In this procedure, you use the Rule Definition form to assign a rule to an array.

To define an array rule

  1. From the Rule Definition form of the Database Definition tool, press Select (F4) or Define (F6) and choose Array Rule.
  2. In the Select A Rule subform, select and define the following rules.
    Rule Description
    Array Size

    Defines an array with a variable number of occurrences. For more information, see Array Size.

    Format:

    Array Array Size Is Field

    Array: The array field you want to give a size to.

    Field: The field whose value determines the size of the array field.

    Edit Inc Seq

    Edit Dec Seq

    Edit Contiguous

    Edits values in an array to ensure that they are in the correct sequence. For more information, see Edit Sequence Rules.

    Formats:

    Edit Array Array For Increasing Sequence

    Edit Array Array For Decreasing Sequence

    Edit Array Array Contiguous

    Array: The array field you want to sequence.

    Make Inc Seq

    Make Dec Seq

    Make Contiguous

    Sorts the values in the array according to the sequence selected. For more information, see Make Sequence Rules.

    Formats:

    Make Array Array Increasing Sequence

    Make Array Array Decreasing Sequence

    Make Array Array Contiguous

    Array: The array field you want to sequence.

    No Duplicates

    Indicates that an array cannot have duplicate values. For more information, see No Duplicates.

    Format:

    Array Array Can't Have Duplicates

    Array: The array field that cannot have duplicates.

  3. Press Enter twice.
