Defining a Work File Index

A program can read and write records in an ISAM work file sequentially or based on a user-defined index. To create an index, you must first group all the key fields at the top of the field list.

Note: You cannot designate key fields for sort files, or for printer, sequential, external sequential, or tape file media.
