Defining a Detail Header

You can mark lines in the lowest level format as a detail header. The report prints the detail header each time the value of a key field changes in one of the upper level formats. You do not have to define a detail procedure to paint a detail header. A detail header is painted in the format that allows access to nonkey fields.

To define a detail header

  1. On the Report Format form, define the text you want to include in the page header by typing it in or labeling the fields. You cannot include fields in a detail header.
  2. In a Report Format window, use the Mark and Bound keys to select the lines you want to print as a detail header. You can select lines in the lowest level format only.
  3. Press Define (F6) and choose Headers.
  4. Choose Define Detail Header.
  5. To view the defined detail header, press Define (F6), choose Headers, then choose Display Detail Header.

    The detail header is shaded.
